Capture the Iconic Pitons on Camera During St Lucia Holidays

There are so many things to see and do on St Lucia holidays you may be forgiven for being unable to pick a favourite, but sure to be a hot contender is a visit to the iconic Pitons.

Gros Piton and Petit Piton are two volcanic plugs that seem to emerge vertically from the Piton Mitan ridge.

The peaks both stand at over 700 metres above sea level with only 50 metres between them in size but their lush covering of rainforest vegetation helps to disguise their volcanic roots and the peaks are now dormant.

It should come as no surprise that the Pitons are a World Heritage site as they are among the most photographed images on St Lucia – and it is likely you will also want to capture this breathtaking image once you have seen it first hand.

One of the best vantage points for photographing these iconic landmarks is Mount Gimie – itself something of a tourist attraction as it is the tallest mountain on St Lucia.

For a different image, you may wish to take a boat off the coast and admire the spectacular sight of the Pitons as they rise from Piton Bay from a viewpoint at sea.

You may feel that you could spend hours admiring this stunning sight, but St Lucia has much more to see and do.

At the nearby fishing town of Soufriere you could head to the botanical gardens, or, for a truly unique experience, how about checking out the “drive-in” Soufriere volcano – an active volcanic crater.

The island’s tropical climate ensures that you can spot fruits such as mangos and papaya growing while you explore, while the rainforests are home to wild orchids and birds of paradise.

To taste some of the fresh produce that grows on the island you could head to one of the open air markets.

Sports fans also have plenty to keep them occupied while on holiday here, with scuba diving, snorkelling, golf, tennis and sailing all popular pastimes to try your hand at.

And the one activity you certainly should not miss out on is the chance to relax on one of the stunning beaches – a draw to many Caribbean luxury holidays.

As you lie back and soak up the sun, you may find that you never want to leave.
